Mission Statement of the Montante Family Library
The mission of the Montante Family Library of D'Youville College is to actively participate in the education of students, and to support the research and curricular needs of the entire college community. This community includes D'Youville College students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as Da Vinci High School students and faculty, and patrons from the community surrounding the college campus.
D'Youville College provides education at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral levels, and encourages scholarship and lifelong learning. Its primary focus is on the application of knowledge in the liberal arts, science, business, education, and health and human services. The Montante Family Library provides the resources and services required to foster academic excellence and freedom of inquiry in the areas of study supported by the College's curriculum. This mission can be fulfilled only if there is a complete utilization of Library resources. Effective utilization depends on interaction among faculty, administration, and Library staff. Therefore, the librarians, working with other faculty, provide an information literacy program to meet the needs of those disciplines supported by the College's curriculum. As the College grows, the Library is flexible and open to new ideas, thus continuing to provide high quality service in the advent of new college programs and directions. Directives and guidelines from federal and state governments, and the accrediting associations for higher education programs are applied to the Library's strategic plan, thus assuring the Library will achieve its mission.
Mission adopted during the academic year of 1996-97, modified December 2003
